So I'm thinking of having a change around. I don't have a huge amount of fish in my tank.

I want a really colourful tank.

What would my options be for stocking (community). I want things that are readily available at fish shops.

I'm thinking livebearers are a good option as the colour range is vast!

The tank in question is a 125L tank with the stock filter and a fluval 2+ (could upgrade and get another internal).

Thanks,

Tim.

what fish you currently got?

how about harlequin rasboras? bleeding heart tetras?

I am trying to shift the angels so my tank is more peaceful, so I will be left with the BN plecs and 2 Kribensis.

I want fish that are full of colour, not so much tetras with the odd bit of colour here and there.

if you want a peacefull tank then i would remove the kribs as well....

platys/swordtails come in many great colour forms and are an underated fish that are cheap too :good:

Red: Odessa Barb
Orange: Kuhli Loaches
Yellow: Fortail Blue Eye Rainbow
Green: Celebes Rainbow
Blue: Blue Emperor Tetra or Neon Dwarf Rainbows
Indigo: Diamond Tetra
Violet: Hmmm

i know you said no to tetras but i have a group of 9 rummynose tetras and they shoal like theres no tomorrow, a bigger group would look awesome.
cardinal tetras are also very colourfull but dont shoal as well as rummynoses.
other nice tetras are flame tetras, lemon tetras, diamond tetras, neon tetras, serpae tetras, etc etc
ive just bought 17 gold tetras, quite small but look amazing in the tank and pure silver not gold as the name suggests :S they look like they have been wrapped in tin foil almost dont look real they are so silver.

heres a link to 1 of my topics with pics :good:

I've seen some Sunset Platys (orange and red) and some pure red balloon mollys.

What about some female bettas?

Keep the colours coming :good:

Thankyou,

Tim.

i got a fluval 3 plus and its not enought for a 120L tank i would recomend gettin a new filer before you add more fish if you want a relly nice colourful tank get a bunch of male guppies

My Fluval 2+ is an addition to the standard Juwel filter system that comes with the tank.

Oh yeah forgot about them, do they get on okay with all the livebearers?

I'm thinking:

Sunset Platy (red/orange)
Dwarf Gourami (red/blue)
Red Balloon Platy (red lol)

Possibly too much red?

Could try and find some nice guppys too.

How many of each fish should I go for?

i would personally get a single male as they can bully same species males. sunset platys are nice looking fish but wht not get a mix of colours there are some great looking platys out there. balloon platys just look wrong in my eyes, but its not my tank.... the only other issue with all of these livebearers is that if you dont get all male then you wil end up very overcrowded with fry and eventually fully grown fish  also they dont shoal they just do their thing whereas alot of tetras or danios etc etc will shoal and in a big group they look amazing.
i would possibly go for 6 male platys and a dwarf gourami if these are what you like then something for the tank bottom like a group of loaches or corys, 5+ of which ever you wanted is a good number and brings the best out of the fish. i have corys in all my tanks except 1 which i have polkadot loaches. both are great characters and add a bit of movement on the substrate if in big enough groups and both dont have massive bioloads to worry about :good:
you should still have a bit of room for another shoaling fish if you wanted....

I have two golden zebra loaches. Absolutly brilliant. Constantly out, are a bit like little clown loaches but bright yellow and back rather than orange.

There are so many types of colorful platys and swordtails! I have a pair of red tuxedo platys (bright red with black sides and reddish fins and I have three gold dust mollies which are gorgeous deep yellow with irredescent highlights. I also have a pair of guppies. The male has a beautiful yellow delta tail.

They ad some needed color to my tank of mostly tetras and angels.
