I just now was looking at something online about aquariums and accessories, and somehow I accidently came across some pictures of some very nice fish that I've never seen nor heard of—German Blue Rams. Anyone here have any? I've read they're peaceful, even though they're of the cichlid family. At $8.99 each, up to 3 inches and very colorful, I'd like to order 2 of them at my LFS.

Thanks!

I don't have any, but I plan on getting some. From what I read they're non aggressive (for a cichlid) and small, but not very hardy and have pale colors when stressed.

German Blue Rams are quite popular b/c of their gorgeous colors, but they are also notoriously delicate. Definitely read up on them before taking the plunge, and if you decide you want something a little more hardy you can consider Bolivan Rams which are less colorful but still have the interesting body/fin shapes and personality!

leopard sail fin pleco? i assume u mean just sail fin? these guys get huge! usualy 24in.

They're the closest name I can find on my plecos. The stores around here say they're common plecos on the tag on the tanks, and I know they're must be a name better than common. They do have the same shape and spots as the Leopard Sail Fins. So for now I'm not quite sure what they are, but they need a better name than common. The tag said they get up to 18 inches in a 20 gallon tank. But if they start to get too big, 24 or 18 or even 12, I might sell them. I've had them for weeks now and they're still the same size as they were when I got them, and I'm guessing they're about 4 inches—then and now. Nice looking, whatever they are. :)

They are kind of delicate, I had a little female and she would eat nothing (and I do mean nothing!) but bloodworm.

I didn't get a chance to read everything on them, so I didn't know they're delicate fish. That isn't good—especially knowing how many times my tank's water gets high levels of NH3, NO2 & NO3, and of course clouds of sand dust and carbons. My most delicate fish I have (so I've been told) are my Von Rios. Nothing that happened seemed to phase them.

I also accidently found these online... Kribensis. I read they, too, are peaceful cichlids; but haven't seen where they're either delicate or hardy. They're $6.49 each. Anyone here have Kribensis? :)

lol you cant just say a new name because you dont like the name of the fish. if it is a common pleco it needs atleaset 75g for the two. and selling when they get over 8" is extremly hard, i couldnt give a way a 12" pleco, i had to put it in my friends pond. not even the lfs would take it, they just said "it would be too hard to sell and we dont have the space to have one for months". if they are commons i would find new homes for them soon before you get into the same predicamit i was in.

can you see that the common has like squiggly lines and the leopard has spots? should be easy to tell them apart.

I keep kribs( when they are healthy and cheap) and i have never had a problems. I even had a male baby krib( around 2 inches ) survive ammonia at 6ppm. I had a accident an dsome aresol got in it. But they are good fish and you cannot keep 2 of the same sex or else there will be war. They are very hardy and the breed like rabbit and have strong robust babies.

Yeah, I don't like to call any of my fish or other people's fish common anything. It just sounds wrong, and people do wanna know exaclty what we have. I did know the name of my plecos, but I keep forgetting what it is. I say I have Leopard Sailfins `cos they look like them so much—fins and spots. The stores around here call them common or regular plecos—that's just not gonna cut it for me. That's just like when friends call me hey, and that of course isn't anyone's real name.

Anyway, I know one FS will take my plecos after they get too big for me. I saw one in their tank once that someone gave them that was around a foot long, and they sold it for about $14. I myself wanted to buy it, but I only had and still have a 46G tank. Once mine hit 8 or 9, I might give them to this particular FS. Also, they say they can order me the GBRs and Kribs. For the time being, I just want one of each, and see how they do in my aquarium.

I had the water tested yesterday and it was near perfect, but I forgot what they said the NH3 was, but they said it was safe. Here's what the stats were...

NH3: ?
NO3: 0
NO2: 0.15 (sure beats what it had been... 5.2)
GH: 79 (soft)
Chlorine/Chloramine: 0 (it's always zero)
KH: 133
pH: 7.2 (it was 6.8 )

Aquarium work and time pays off, huh?
:)

you do realize there is a HUGE difference between a common and a leapard sailfin plec right?

That's a nice one. He still looks good even though he's a bit ill from the spots.

I will have one probably by October.

Nah, didn't know; but I will find out what mine really is by this afternoon or evening. It's like with my eel—couldn't find out what kind'a eel it was for many days,`cos the FS didn't know themselves. :/

I dunno if they're trying to say that a Hi-fin Spotted Pleco is the same as the so called Common Pleco or what. I went back to the PS that I bought my 2 plecos from, and on the tank it said the Hi-fin Spotted ones. To me, they look a lot like the Leopard Sailfins—but whether they're Hi-fins or Sailfins, mine are nice—if I can ever get a clear and vivid picture of them, or any of my fish. :/
