Coffee Table Tank

BigC would be the guy to ask, he works with glass and has built tanks before. Have a look at the links below of the marine tank he is currently building, lots of good info in there.

Not sure on using the external filter with drilled bulkheads. Im sure it can be done but off the top of my head wouldnt be able to say how (I know fluval do make tanks with drilled bottoms designed for their branded filters).

Nice idea, but won't the top glass be constantly covered in condensation, like a condensation tray on top of a tank?

I get the feeling the one in the picture has only just been filled........................

i love this thread, cant wait to see the results :hyper: gonna be amazing ( no pressure ;) )

thanks for posting those links to BigC`s tank barney, hes a clever man eh, tank is fantastic

BigC's tank is amazing and he makes it look so simple, i cant wait. im just waiting on a quote for the glass(im excited)

love moonlights, they look fab, i should get some for my 200
i had them on a tank before, and the bulbs kept falling into the water,in the end they stopped working, maybe aquatic silicone would be a better idea than double sided sticky pads
the bulbs on yours look quite big, or is it just the light making them look bigger
the ones i had were light xmas lights ( led) weeny bulbs on a string.and dont recall them ever giving off as much light as yours seem to

That looks like some sort of blitz lol but pretty cool. I guess if you didn't like the search light effect submerging the leds slightly in the water would disperse the light but it gives the op and idea I guess.

However I think lighting could be the hardest part of this tank in getting it to work and look right at the same time. Lots of experimenting ahead I think

that tank looks insane!!! your so lucky lol

good luck with the project!

post some pictures along the road while building it so we can see how far youve come!! :hyper:

I'd suggest decided between mbuna or haps personally, keeping both brings up the difficulty of making sure the haps get enough meaty protein but the mbuna don't get too much (thus causing bloat). Then there's also the probablity that your haps will get picked on by the mbuna when young, but then the haps will turn the tables once they've grown large enough to eat the mbuna. So I'd start by deciding which group you really want. There's also a difference on stocking and decor, mbuna you overstock to help with aggression and they need tons of rock work for territories, haps shouldn't be overstocked and most are open water predators.

As for numbers, I'm not that great on stocking big tanks, you might PM Ferris. He's still on here occasionally, so it may take awhile before he answers you, but he's great with stocking. :good:
