Im due to take delivery of my first tank, a Juwel Rio 125. I am thinking of using some PVC pipe fixtures, bends and t's, to create some hidey holes and tunnels on the substrate of my tank. Now i am quite certain that the PVC pipes are safe to use (if someone here could confirm that for me i would much appreciate it), but i want to coat the pipes with the sand i will be using, and am unsure as to what glue would be safest and if there is a known good method of doing this? I envisage just covering the pipework in glue then rolling it in the sand, would this work?

I havent done it myself and will now i saw your question but this looks good http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-decoration/99.asp

Any silicone sealant that doesn't have an anti-bacterial agent in it can be used (so no 'bathroom' sealant), 'aquarium sealant' is the sane stuff just packaged for the fishkeeping market and overpriced accordingly :)

thanks for the replies. One more thing, would that sealant also be suitable for glueing rocks together?
thanks for the link, that it's very similar to what I am hoping to do!

The rocks will come apart at some point, trust me I have done it lol.

Drill the rocks and run acrylic rods through them to hold them together as some do in marine reef tanks.
This works well I used this in my reef, Alsp you can drill rocks and cable tie them together, eventually the cAble ties will get algae etc on them, and you won't see them, as for PVC pipes I have them on my sump, the best pipes to use are food grade, as there have been cases of certain chemicals leAching into.the water from the Pvc pipes,

If my memory serves me right, epoxy putty can be used to stick rocks together.
