Hi

Im using a boyu drop checker from AE for my rio 125 and 4dkh and a hagen PH kit now what colour do I aim for on the test card? 6.8 green or 6.6 light green?

My checker is sitting just at 6.8 ph 28 bubble per minute

Now I got it set that my co2 is on at 12pm and lights at 2pm co2 off at 9pm lights off 10pm

By the time I hit 9pm at night my co2 hits 6.8ph colour.

This sound about right?

Thanks

I will say 6.6
but continue with the reasoning behind DCs.

Set it up and every few days move it to differnt positions around the tank. Not willy nilly though. Star in the furthest corner from the diffuser. Then move it 25% the length of the tank down the furthest side away every 2 days, then the other side. See what differences you get in the different positions.

Once you find your darkest green (maybe even blue) then leave it there and try and get this region to 6.6 If your fish are not suffering then you have found the level ;)

When the plantmass grows do it again because plantmass affects circulation and therefore deadspots can appear in differnt places.

Ok

I have got a 6.8 reading on my PH using the hagen test kit and the drop checker is lime green.

I have tested using my PH test from the API test kit and thats comming up with 6.4!

What gives is one inaccurate?

Did you take the water from exactly the same place in the tank?

They should be pretty much the same and have a shelf life of approx 5 years.

The drop checker is not measuring pH as such - it's just an indication of the difference in a 4kH solution when a certain amount of CO2 diffuses into it - the pH in the drop checker is NOT the same as the pH of the water in your tank!
