ive read that mostly everytype of clown fish is compatible with other types, ie. black percula with the "nemo" clowns or even clarkii.

is that true or should you stay away from mixing different types of the same species????

that is not true except for perucla and occelaris which can live together sometimes, and you would need a HUGE tank to have 2 different types

I once kept a pair of Clark's Anemonefish with a juvenile Maroon Clown in a 55 gallon tank with no problems, and there are tons of reports of pairs of different species cohabitating a tank. I also have a book that recommends clownfish to be put only with other clownfish.

you need a big tank if your mixing species, how long was the maroon in there?

ive read about 3 other sites all saying clown fish will interact with all other species of clown. more opinions needed i have a 65 us gallon tank and i want either some black perculas or clarkii's, i currently have "nemos" sorry i always forget there proper names

i have 2 and im looking to get another pair but of either the black perculas or the clarkii

i don't think you can add anymore since you already have a pair they will be more aggressive and attack any newcomers, or be attacked by the clarkii which are moire aggressive, your tank is too small to have 2 different pairs of clown, and species

if you stocked a tank with just clownfish and put in a lot of them in (say like 20 in like a 120gallon) would the aggresion be split between them all?

anyone else opinions would be much appriciated.... just to get a general feel, i hate reading one thing and being told another, more opinions equal more experience and that equals healthy fish.

in a 120 if you stalk it with ocellaris or i think its same with percula and there all juveniles when you add them they will form a "pecking order" with 1 male and 1 female the others will all be juveniles and wont mature

actually i know in the wild, they travel in a small group and there will be a dominent female and then a few small males, if the female was to die or go missing the next bigger fish will then change from a male to a female and lead the pack, thats the "peck cycle" clown fish have the ability to change their sex

ive heard, not saying its 100% relaible that they can live in 2-3s and just one will becoem dominent ... and ive heard the same as you BamBam ... trouble with marines is its alot opiniated different fish will have different peorsonalities so u can never tell!

but if u look and see what lynden put about having 2 clarkis and maroon it can be done ... and lyndens experianced and knowledgeable! more then us thats for sure :p
