Clown Loaches...

I was thinking about getting some, but I saw in the fish index in the forums that they have a potential size of 12''. Does that mean they will definately grow to be 12'' or, as I am thinking, that is rare. All the Clown loaches I've ever seen have been at maxium of 4''. I'd like to put a couple in my 30 gallon with the fish in there, (See Signature), but I think I'll be overstocked then. Can I do this?

They do get to a foot, and putting them in a 30g will stunt them, and kill them.

Okay, just a question dwarfs, not a statement. I didn't know that the loaches allways get 12'', thanks for telling me. As for the Ropefish, I'm not looking for any crap from you about it, I didn't want any opinions on my Ropefish, who will be moved when, (IF!) he gets "18 inches". Thanks for the info on the Loach though.

Maybe i missed something before dwarfs edited his post?
but anyway, the rope fish may not get 18" in a 30 gallon because it will already be stunted.
You can bet that the maximum sizes listed on reliable sites are true, and should be taken into account in the fish's original aquarium, you can't wait for them to grow and then get a new tank because by then its too late.

Loaches like to be in groups....and they will get big...so dont bother with your 30 gal. as it won't be a suitable home for them....also....no one is giving you crap about your rope fish...but...this is a forum where knowledge is gained...and dwarfs was just trying to inform you that your ropefish will out grow/die from being in there.

Yes, I know but he has been rude to me before and I never have said anything about it. Plus, as I've said so many times before, I just wanted to know about the loaches. I don't mean to be rude or abnoxious myself, but now, I have to find a new home for my Ropefish, like I have done for a lot of other fish I had such as Silver Dollars, which I was informed that they could live in 30 gallon by an internet source and later reassured by a Local Fish Store, that they would be fine for life in there. Then, Found out that they couldn't and had to get rid of them. It's just frusterating getting bad info from people, especially when there's something life at steak.

I know whats its like getting bad info...then getting a fish you adore..only to realize that you can't keep it...it sucks...but for the good of the animal sometimes hard decisions are made....you can either return him or do what i did...get a bigger tank ...no hard feelings at all.

Getting a new tank is what I REALLY want to do. I want to get a 55 gallon or something. Problem is, I have a fish-hating-nazi-terrorist mom who allmost killed me for getting a 30 gallon and right after that she said and I quote: "There will be no more fish tanks!!!" She absolutely hates me getting new fish or new fish supplies. Plus, In a couple of years, I'll be going off to colledge or something so, I won't be around to take care of the large tank. Could I put some Clown Loaches in the 55 with my ropefish if I get the tank?

Thats to bad...gotta hate moms sometimes.....I'd say in the best interest of the fish take him back to your Ifs...i know it sucks...but better for him. And then you'll have room for something else that will be happy in your tank,

I talked to her. She said if there's any sighn of things wrong with him,or he gets bigger, we can buy a 55 gallon tank. I know it might be too late. But anyways, could I put some clown loaches in with him if I get the 55?

If you give them the chance they will get to be about 10 iches. That is way too big for the 30 gallon tank especially since they will be best if they are in groups(I think)
