Hello

I have 2 clown loaches and one of them is sitting at the back of the tank upright. He is also sitting at the bottom of the tanks. He sometimes comes out and swims around but then goes back into the corner. He will come out for food to.

Any help please

Clowns will be Clowns  okay if you read up on them you will find they do lay and act in some very odd ways some times they make new owners think they are even dead they have an odd temperament that has made the nick name "clown loach" very apt.

Keeping 2 is not a good idea they need to be in a group of there own species at least 4 or 5.

You also need a big tank for these guys at least 90 to 100 gallon tank as they grow big up to 12 to 16 inches and there life span if looked after well can be 15 - 20 years plus

they need lots of caves and hidey wholes it makes them feel safe and secure

usually they are more active when lighting is subdued or even when the lights go out

Please read up on these guys if you intend on keeping them

How big is your tank? what filtration do you have? what other fish do you have? what are you feeding them ?

Agree, we get so many beginners who have been given no idea at the LFS the huge size of the tank needed for these fellows.

~~waterdrop~~

Agree with what has been said above, clown loaches require a minimum of about 350/400L and should be kept in groups of 6+

Clown loaches have been known to live in excess of 35 years!

Sorry, disagree. I have two clowns that are about 6-7" in a 3ft tank (36x15x12"), 21 UK gallons, about 110l I think, and they're fine. They've grown from 2" and aren't growing any more which suits me fine. I love them, my fave fish and wouldn't part with them for anything. Can't have a bigger tank either.
