Hi,
Nearly the end of a fishless cycle, Juat waiting for the last tiny bit of Ammonia to be processed in 12 hours (At the moment gets to Zero in 14 Hours.. Nitrites at Zero in 12 Hours ) Now the last week or so every time i add the correct of Ammonia the water goes cloudy for about 2 hours then clears up and is crystal clear..Until the next time i add...Is this any thing to be worried about Regards Zac

Forgot..Should add... Fishless Cycle..No Plants..Just Gravel...Water stats all fine ...Jewell 125 tank...Cycle now into its 7 th week Regards Zac

It sounds like a bacteria or even algae that is feeding on the ammonia. As the nutrient level in the water goes down, the sudden bloom can't survive because they are not getting enough to eat. There are free floating bacteria in our tanks although we try to establish the right beneficial bacteria in our filters. After all, a fish tank is not a sterile environment.

Thanks Oldman...However is it any thing to be concerned with.. Or will the cycle finish as normal...Regards Zac

I would not worry about it at all. If you get a bacterial bloom that seems to go on for days, even that seems to not matter much once you have your fish in. The fish produce lots of ammonia but the concentration never rises to the levels we see while doing a fishless cycle. Instead the beneficial bacteria use the ammonia as it is being produced so the high levels never exist.
