Cleaning Black Sand

Hi just a quick question.
just purchased some black sand for my tank,
i know i have to give it a good clean with running water,and i will have quite a bit left over which i will use
at a later date,what would be best to store the damp sand in,and is it likely that any nasties could grow in the
sand,also could i use normal household rubber gloves while cleaning the sand,or is this not wise.

Pour what you think you'll need into a separate container and then wash that, leaving what you don't need dry in the bag it came in ready for use at a later date. Or just wash it all, and what you don't use put back in the bag. Squeeze most of the air out and put a peg over the top afterwards. I've never had anything growing in the bag after i've washed it and put it back, so you should be ok. Personally i didnt bother with gloves while cleaning, it would make it more awkward to do if you ask me, just use your bare hands, no harm comes from it, and you certainly don't do anything bad to the sand - its just sand.

I agree with Verminator89, clean what you need and save the rest for that later date. I occasionally vacuum too clean to the sand and need to add more. I just clean the new sand as I need it from my extra bag I have.
