Hello,
I have seen online that people use the generic little clay pots (ussualy used for flowers of course) as hiding spots in tanks. Does this let off anything in the water that would not be good for fish? I don't think it would because some substrates already contain clay, but hey, you guys are the pros.

Thanks :D

With any kind of rock or material that you put into a tank, you should see if it's going to change your pH levels. If you pour some white vinegar on a rock and it foams, it will change your pH level. If it's true clay, it shouldn't be a problem.

lol good tip, thing is, how much will it affect your tank. the answer, on the whole, is not very much.

white vinegar and lemon juice are not something I would rely on 100% as they are very weak acids.

Clay however is inert, so things like terracotta pots (as long as they are new and clean) will be fine.
