I have a clay pitcher that has fallen and made a small hole in one side. Since it is no longer useful for serving drinks ect I was wondering if I could put it in my freshwater aquarium. I've read that certain types of pottery and glazes can be harmful to fish after time but since this was designed to hold liquid and to be safe for humans does that mean it will be safe for fish? Oh and It isn't painted but it does have some kind of glaze on it, but the glaze is people safe!
Let me know if I need to clear anything up and thank you in advance!

Its hard to tell without seeing a picture, even then its a hard question to answer as the "glaze" could be any number of things. I'm quite sure the inside would be aquarium safe but as for the outside of it, a persons drinks are not coming into contact with the outside of it, therefore, doesn't need to be designed with that in mind.

Soap products used to wash the pitcher are safe for humans, but are not for fish. I would not chance it. If it were unglazed and had never been washed, then it more than likely be safe, but given that this is glazed and most assuredly has been washed, I would pass. Maybe you can make it into a planter for the garden...
