My Albino BN Pleco has spawned…
I found one wiggler, but where there’s one, there’s got to be more!

My first spawn a couple years ago with the parents of my present adult Pleco resulted in 65 fry. So I expect many more fry with this spawn.

Luckily my Nammacara parked out side the pleco cave and had the most wonderful snacks. Having said that my honeycomb have bred now and then and a few of them even manage to grow into adults.

I haven't had a good cigar in ages. That may be why I have had ages since the last cigar...

I have given away all my BN golds a few times. Every time, I miss some young, and every time, I get pairs that produce another generation. When I bring a bag of them to auction, people scream and run. But if there are no breeders where you are, they are always welcome fish.

I have a family owned LFS that takes my Pleco fry in exchange for credit toward more fish.

They sound like rats . Breeding all the time whether you like it or not . That’s not a bad thing as it means you’re doing everything right for them .

I have 2 Bolivian Rams in the tank and I read they will eat any eggs they find so population growth should be under control. I don't want 65 more Plecos but two or three would be nice. There are presently 3 adult plecos in the tank.

The males are amazing Dads. They take good care of the young right until they can swim. Then the Ancistrus swim out with large yolk sacs still attached, and become a delicacy for many tankmates. I may be wrong, but in general, with Mikrogeophagus altispinosus in there, 20 could survive from every spawning of fifty.

I'm reconciled to mine. They may be unnatural, linebred fish, but they grow on you. I'd rather have wild forms, but I don't, and these are genial fish. I was given them by a kid who needed to rehome them originally, days before the pandemic hit and rehoming became difficult. So here they are, generations later.

Make mine a Cuban, please. Over the years I have had somewhere between one and two thousand plecos born in my tanks. I began with Ancistrus. My final spawn from them was over 100 eggs. I stopped keeping BN and switched to more rarer Hypancistrus species who will only ave 12 -15 eggs on average.

Early on I had them in my planted community 45 gal. and the other fish basically ate all the fry when they left the caves. But, sooner or later there will be one or two eggs that escape this fate and I eventually spotted a 1 inch bn. A breeder from whom I was getting ccorys told me to move the parents to a species tank and I would get a lot more survivors. The result became way to many BN. I finally sold them all at one of the Catfish Conventions.

Today I have a few BN in some of my planted community tanks. The rule is they is only one sex allowed in a tank. I may have multiple females but normally will only have one male in a tank as they can tend to fight. A bigger size tank can minimize this.
