I plan on getting a biger tank furter on up the road, but for now i got a 29gal with heater,filter,hood,stand,etc.. in my basement. I was gona set up a manly central american tank, i know i cant do alot but will this work
from this list i will pick 2 difrent ones:
-firemouth
-rainbow cichlid
-sajica
-port acara
-salvini
-jewel cichlid(african)
and
1-krib
1-redtail shark
so i would have 3 cichlids and 1 shark
plus i would add a few tetras, barbs, or dainos for deithers/targets
will thus work, any advice on these combinations, or any other smaller central American cichlids that would work would be appreciated.
pluse could i add more then i am planning or no.
thanks........ :good:

I checked out the cookie cutter but i would like atleast 2 diffrent types not pairs. I am gona put this up in a few days just need advice

You wont get away with 2 of those plus a shark and a kribensis.. I don't see it happening.

I'm not even sure a RTBS and a kribensis will get along in a 29g tank..

Maybe keyhole cichlids?

so what woud do you think i should do i just want 2 or 3 diffrent cichlids and some barbs or something for deithers and targets. Which of those fish or any other central american cichlids would you advise?

Firemouths need a 55g. For three of those cichlids, and all the dithers and sharks and things - I'd say, so do you!

If you want two or three cichlids, and some dithers, barbs or whatever, you need to upgrade your tank. Failing that, you might get away with a couple of keyholes and a small group of tetras. But really, just about all a 29g is good for NW cichlid wise is a pair of convicts or angels. On their own. One or the other.

man that sucks i dont like angelsplus i had cons before i like them but id like to try something diffrent.I dont know i would just settle for 2 fish not 3 i just dont know... :S

If you want 2 species of cichlid in a 29 gal AND tankmates, there aren't many choices. Really just dwarfs, and even then you may have trouble. Three cichlids and a RT Shark? No way.

I would suggest looking into the New World dwarf species like rams, apistos, keyholes, checkerboards. Pick one species and then select some appropriate tankmates, or get Kribs.

i have a 37g tank and was told i could have rainbow cichlids. And i think a pair of firemouth's need 29g for a breeding pair not sure if its full time.

Chequerboards are lovely dwarf cichlids as too are rams and apistos. You could also keep hatchetfish for the top layer , corydoras for the bottom and some tetras, by doing this you would have plenty going on and it would look very nice. Add bogwood too and some clay half flowerpots.

Males can get to 6-7". I looked this up recently for someone else on here, various sites said 55g min. As they're roughly double the size of convicts, and convicts need 29g for a pair, I think 55g for a pair is pretty reasonable. You could not fit a pair of firemouths and dithers in a 29g tank. It would be overcrowded.

Ideally the Firemouth tank should be at least a fifty-five gallon, with rocks, driftwood and many plants.

Firemouths can be set up in community tanks with compatible species in a minimum 90 centimetre (36 inch) tank. A tank of dimensions 90x45x45cm (36x18x18 inches) has a capacity of 183 litres.

183l = 48-49g

Those aren't the links I posted last time on the other thread, might be worth doing a search because I dont have the time ;)
