Cichlid Questions . Waterflow & Gravel

hi ,
 
what waterflow should I have for new world / american  cichlids.
(jack dempsey, texas, rainbow cichlids and black acara's)
looked on web some say fast water flow some say slow so what you guys think.
 
also what size gravel is best ( dont want sand)

I don't know about water flow, Guess it is what works for each person. As far as gravel, Sand really is the best for cichlids. I use pool filter sand in all my tanks. I'll never use gravel again.

Some fine and soft for the diggers amongst them. Otherwise worth looking at where they're found, some are backwater fish that like it low and slow, some are white water fish who like it choppy. Some live in both and will happily adapt to either.
