Hi all,

I'm now all cycled on my tank and am looking to start stocking in the next few days.

I am looking to keep Cichlids. Now I have a couple of questions.

1 - Is it possible to also keep a plec with Cichlids?

2 - Do I need an air pump/stone? Most sources Ive read have said that when using an external filter the water is returned oxygenated anyway, and also I have made a modifieed spray baar which creates a nice surface disruption creating bubbles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Mike

What kind of cichlids are you going to be keeping?

You don't need an air stone as long as your filter creates some rippling on the water surface.

I'm going to keep majority Malawi and maybe Tanganyikan.

So people say Pleco are so well armoured and placid that blend in and are not bothered by the Cich's?

Although saying that I have had conflicting stories from different sources?

I wouldn't get a plec then. They are tough and would most likely survive, but it wouldn't be having anywhere near what most people would consider a 'happy' life.
