What's new

never tried keeping “normal” size cray fish…

honestly these guys hide quite well, and I often have trouble finding even one… but so far I’ve found 2 blue sheds, and today the 1st white shed…

my large pieces of black slate ( to replace the limestone slabs ) arrived today…

since there doesn’t appear to be any in fighting, or even any predated fish yet, I have another make / female pair of white crays coming as well…

1st white shed found today…

it sad that these polished black river rocks look so great in my soft water tanks, but appear to show calcium buildup in pretty short order this hard water tank…

I kept self cloning crays before.
Didn't take long to have a tank full of them~!
I did not keep them with any fish, but many PVC tubes like a condo complex.
Maybe had over 30 at one point in a 10g~!

I don’t have any “real” aquatic plants in the same tank as the crays ( I have 2 silk plants ) but I have a pretty large hoya growing out of the tank, along with a few small ones, and I’ve seen the crays climbing in the roots, but they haven’t done any damage, and the plants are growing really well in there…

those plants are just inserted in gaps between the cover and the glass, with the biggest plant coming out beside the hang on filter… I’m a big fan of open topped tanks, but the crays would I’m sure climb out, if the tank wasn’t pretty tightly covered…

They definitely can escape.
I ended up suspending the airline and heater wire in the middle of the tank.
Had they been on the side or touching glass they would have escaped.
I found that out real fast~!

I thought of you the other day. A parent of a student had huge white and blue crawdads he wanted to give me. They were from his defunct classroom tank, and they were really, really cool. I wanted them, but didn't have a place to keep them. So I recommended he get in touch with the LFS.
