Cichlid Id Supposed To Be African Blockhead.

The Ebay ad specifically states this male Lionhead has lost his mate...

This poor guy will almost certainly be a widow for the rest of his life, as it is so rare for seperated pairs to ever entertain another partner

I have just been offered a breeding pair of STEATOCRANUS CASUARIUS. But I'l have to rehome the one I got yesterday and the 2 slender lionheads I picked up today! Totally different fish I'l get picks later!

Oh, Slender Lionhaeads, the tinantis?

If so, that's the one I told you about the other night that came into my LFS of choice

I trust you have set up Three (3) distinctive hiding caves in the tank in three areas of the tank, as each of them will want a seperate home, at least in the short term.

You may find your female Blockhead (casuarius) will try and claim she lives in the whole tank, resulting in conflicts with the newcomers. To try and resolve this, remove your female Blockhead (ideally before even introducing the Slenders) and then move the significant "furniture" (bogwood and caves especially, possibly some plants) around. Then add all three to the tank at the same time.

There are 7 different caves+bogwood so no worries there! I'm moving the whole tank around tomorrow Changing the substrate, I have sand and black gravel at mo going for just sand! Plus a 90% water change just to get them all off on the right foot/fin!

Ok I moved it all today in doing so I now have only 4 hiding places but will put in more! The fish in the 5th picture apparently is Aequidens sp. peru and I have 2 of them. Strange looking faces and heads but cute too! The slender lionheads have taken a dislike to the male cockatoo cichlid, as the tank has been moved around I'l let them decide a pecking order before I intervene! The fella hasn't got back to me on the breeding pair yet but I have a tank ready for them! May have to reduce plecs as I may have too many bottom feeders! N0body Of The Goat I'll get some picks tomorrow! Just for you as you have been very helpful! ;)

Just to let you know it went back today, I got the blockhead that I wanted, its pretty cool tbh. I also got a flag cichlid half price for my troubles!

Flag Cichlid as in Festivum ?? I have 3 of these guys are are just as cool if not cooler then my Severums. Good pick. I did not think I would like the Blockhead cichlid I got with my Uaru but it is a very awesome fish and I am so happy I saved him. BUT watch them around smaller fish. Lots of my cory cats have nipped tails and I am pretty sure it's because of the Blockhead he is a nipper. He will go after my EBJD that is bigger then him. Fun fish for sure. Did you get 2? They do better in M F pairs.

Photos?

Unfortunately they only had one left and its rare for them to get any in! It was the first time I had seen them for sale! I did wake up to find one of my xray tetras heads bitten off! I'm not sure on the culprit yet though! However I did get 2 x Slender Lionhaeads, the tinantis! Yes I got two festivums/flags. I kept one before and like them! How big is yours now?

£4.95 each I cant find much info on them though! They are quite cute but sort of alien looking faces lol its like they have no face if that makes sense!

Were they in a tank as an import as they are usually brought in by accident in wild catchments. They are quite peaceful and quite timid at times as well should get on well with your festivum though! As they grow their eyes will stay quite large but their head will fill in as well for a dome like shape. The fins will go quite a metalic gold colour with specs and the white and black markings become very vivid on an olive body nice big paddle shaped tail as they grow as well.

They were in a tank labelled Aequidens but it was a big tank with quite a few different species in! GT's acaras and geo's were the ones I could easily pick out! They sound like they will be fine specimens! Hopefully I have a m+f and get some babies!

ah thats cool which LFS is that at?

It was a smallish shop in cannock West Mids I think I cant remember the name! I had been to a lot of shops to get the right stock as I had sold my discus the evening before!
