Chocolate Gourami Almost Dead!

Thanks can the disease pass onto other fish?

The white stuff are little bits of sand

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Do you have a nitrite, nitrate, reading please.
What's the make of the test kit you are using.

Did you match ph and temp.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.

So the eyes have gone black, is that both eyes?
Is the iris of the eye black.

Carl..... it hurts to see this, all I can suggest is to pm WILDER and ask for help.... she's quite clued up

EDIT:
Oops..... Speak of the devil... she must've seen before I posted, but I believe if anyone can... you're in good hands

Its an 11 gallon tank with:
8 Pygmy Cories
2 Naked Microrasbora
4 Clown killfish
and 3 Otos

I dont have a test kit for Nitrate/Nitrite, but the test kit Im using is made by Tetra

Yes
The fish were 10 mins in the bag floating in the aquarium then 20 mins during the Drip method

Your tanks overstocked.
Immediate water change and increase aeration.

Also take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

OK thanks

I think Athena has given me all that I need to know, thanks :good:
Will pop out now and buy the medicine

:hyper: My 1000th post! :-

Hi Carl

Oh ok, I thought they were clumps of food :hyper:

As for whether this is contagious, well I guess it depends on whether there is another underlying cause of the bacterial disease (e.g. parasitic). I'm not sure from those symptoms whether or not there could be some internal parasite, unless Wilder has any better clues.

I do know from my own experience of when I kept German Blue Rams, I saw these symptoms in the female whom I thought was on death's door but I treated with Myxazin and after a few days she was back to normal again. Her stress was from being with a male with whom she refused to mate and he was persistently harrassing her. Strangely enough, after she recovered she decided she did quite fancy the male after all! LOL

Maybe wait a while to see if Wilder comes up with anything else before going to buy the meds.

Need full water stats as the symtoms are pointing towards a number of things.
Bacterial, bad water quality, etc, ph shock.
I doubt it ph shock if the other fish are fine.

Black eyes can be a symtom of fish tb, but without more symtoms I wouldn't say fish tb just yet.

Last time I tested the nitrate and nitrite in the LFS a week ago, they were:
Nitrate=2
Nitrite=0

Not all lfs are to be trused where water stats are concerned.

I would buy your own liquid test kits.

It's up to you if you add a bacterial med.

You need to sort your stocking out as the tanks overstocked.

To be honest the fish might not make it.
So good luck.

Oh dear...sorry to hear that. He went too quickly eh? I thought he looked too far gone, as I said earlier. But we always live in hope eh?

Keep an eye on your remaining fish now, watch for the first signs of stress - any fin clamping, or sitting at the bottom, listless, not eating...all those things you saw before...if any of them display this behaviour you will need to medicate asap.

Aw bless! :rip:

This really is sad news and just brings me to the conclusion that they are to be admired from a distance and as much as I'd like to give them a try, I know I will not fare any better than you did.....

We just have to accept the fact that Chocs are not aquarium fish and good luck to the select few who get it right.... I rest my obsession and shift my attentions to more achievable goals like (e.g.) firstly getting hold of, and then breeding BN's, which is not so common to do here in SA.

Not your fault Carl.

Crikey, I`m really sorry Carl

I really hope the others are ok x

+1 to anyone who plans on buying Chocolate Gouramis, these are very sensitive fish. Sadly :(
