As a student studying Biochemistry I have worked in the lab over the summer and may be able to get access to raw chemicals for my fish tanks such as meth blue etc. This is quite handy and much cheaper... For example I could get the dry ferts for Ei for practically free. I will post this on the science section, just thought I'd post here first.

Does anyone know how to convert ppm to molar concentration (the SI unit)?

For fishless cycling what ammonia should you use (ie ammonium sulphate) and what concentration? (In molar if poss)

What chemicals at what concentration is used for the ammonia test kit?

What chemicals at what concentration is used for the nitrite test kit?

What chemicals at what concentration is used for the nitrate test kit?

What chemicals at what concentration is used for the gH test kit?

What concentration should methylene blue be to make a stock bottle?

4ppm. Use Boots household ammonia.

Do NOT use miracle grow in an aquatic tank. Period.

Wow, nice one Andy. The only thing I'd add is that ammonium chloride is much better as a source for ammonia than ammonia solution and also a lot safer. I've used it for donkey's years as it's so easy and accurate to use. 0.011 grams of ammonium chloride per gallon of tank water will achieve a 1ppm level.

What's wrong with using miracle-gro? I was pretty sure I read on Diana Walstad page she used top soil here I just thought it would be super-duper nutritious.

This is the problem:

5.8% Ammoniacal Nitrogen
9.2% Urea Nitrogen
