is there anyone on here that would be willing to give me some of there mature media sponge???

long story short ive had a 125 litre tank running for 5 years now and i left it for 1 week while i went on holiday.my younger brother was left in charge of it.hes 20 so not too young.anyway when i got home most of my fish were dead and i had a huge ammonia spike.i asked him what he had been doing and he told me he forgot to use water conditioner when doing water changes.so he has destroyed all the bacteria.im deeply upset and just need a little help.i have a few fish left and im doing water changes everyday to keep them alive.i just need a little mature sponge to help me get on track.

i live in ashford kent im willing to travel 20miles for some

thanks

So sorry to hear about your situation. Check out this link, maybe someone here could help?... http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/150631-list-of-members-willing-to-donate-mature-filter-media-to-newbies/

just had luck with a lfs.they gave me some sponge.thank god.ive never done this before as always clyled with ammonia.so is the tank cycled?? obviousley i will keep an eye on the stats.

Hi. It's amazing what damage can be done in just 1 week! You would have been better off just leaving the tank for a week without any maintenance while you were on vacation. You're doing the right thing though, keeping an eye on the stats and performing good quality water changes to level things out while the nitrifiers re establish themselves.

Dean.
