You live in Mexico. There are tons of exotic fish there! Right?

Yes, but not in the lfs, and definitively not in rural areas such as where I live. We depend here upon the weekly shipments from Mexico city, which only consists of the most common species. Just as an example: we haven't been able to get cardinals here for the past 2 years! Rainbowfish and Rams I have never seen here either. And since I am against taking animals out of their natural habitat I depend upon the weekly shipments, and an occasional visit to the big city.

I get my 'exotics' from my local fish store here in the Dallas area. They, in turn, order them from a gentleman named Toyin who is an importer of West African fish. He also has a mail-order business (www.rehobothaquatics.com) and I can personally attest to the quality of fish he ships and his methods of shipping. Since my primary area of interest is in the West African fish, he's my primary source.

I have never seen M. ansorgii over here in the UK, but it's always been one of those fish I'd wanted to try. Are they more common in the US fruitbat?

Unfortunately, no. Since M. ansorgii really only colors up well in heavily planted tanks and then only when they're displaying to each other they don't usually sell very well and so very few fish stores ever carry them. I was under the impression that they were MORE available in the U.K. than they are here. Interesting how one's perspective is determined by where one lives.

That's a shame, I've always been on the lookout since I saw the great photo in one of the baensch atlases, I didn't even think they were traded until you posted your picture.

In the US, you're granted with some great mail order companies, reheboth and franks aquarium along with Aquabid. Over here we've got a few, but we don't seem to get some of the same fish.

We have got the Cameroon bichir at the moment though...

They are currently on Wildwood's in Enfield's stocking list. Have also seen them on the Trimar list in the past. My impression is that this is a fish that does crop up in specialist shops from time to time.

Very nice fish fruitbat. I always thought about making an African tank. Cool fish.

Anyway, I was just curious about Aquabid and the guy you were talking about who you get your fish from. My question is: How do they ship the fish long distance without them dying?
