I know in the US your looking at 200-300 hundred for a good RO unit.

Hi what kind of price is an RO unit? A simple search on goggle would give you an idea of the average price and a litte effort you could work out which one is cheapest and what is the cheapest you woukld likely pay for a first hand one? First hand do you mean New or second hand?

I know I have googled it but I wasn't sure if they were kind of commercial ones or ones for home use. By first hand I mean new lol

new - goodone cost 85 pounds.
2nd hand - goodone cost 30 to 60 pounds

i have one ro-man 4 stage unit for sale at 50 pounds, look in aquarist classified.

ps,, its very annoying to use one of this things.

could i ask why you feel you need a RO system, for a tropical tank?
also you need to look at the waste produced. many/most, RO units only produce 1 litre of RO for every 5 or water you put in.

Ro wont, cant do that! though you will be told by the vendor it does. don't waste you dough guy. keep fish that suite your water. RO is not, your, answer.

I already have some harlequins, copper harlequins, and until a few days ago I had a pair of cockatoo apisto's but the female died, and I think it was down to the water parameters not being right, as there was no ammonia or nitrite and no sign of disease. I wanted to get some cory's in the future but Ive heard there quite delicate. From what I can find on the internet thre aren't many fish which will fit into my setup as I already have the middle and top of the tank occupied,

try other stuffs like... sera blackwater extract. it do similar job.

unfortunately not, though it may 'seem' to make sense, RO will not do the job you want. as i said, RO softening water is "sales speak". try to do a forum search (advanced) using "RO" and a members name "bignose". i think you will find it enlightening.
