I'm currently in the planning stages of moving to sand from my current gravel setup. Eventualy i would like to have a base layer for my plants and then some sand on top. My concern is when planting and re-arranging plants how would i stop the soil type base layer getting mixed up with the sand? at the moment with gravel i just pull the plants out and replant but i guess this will make a mess with soil/sand?

you could try using Fullers Earth (cat litter). as many have.
this makes a good base for planting. and it does not mix with your top substrate. just make sure its pure Fullers Earth, with no additives.

I read somewhere on here that Argos recently changed their play sand supplier and the new stuff may not be Aquarium safe?

Te He, i read that too. ribs still hurting!

says "may use additives in the future". ie, IS TOTALLY SAFE NOW! (no maker or seller will ever rule out a possibility, however remote) :good:

and always safe, providing you read the label.

lol, the term INERT should give it away, though really. . :hyper:

as it stands now, and for the foreseeable future, PLAYSAND is TOTALLY SAFE. just as its always been. but watch this space. if, and when, they make changes. you will probably read about it hear first.

lol. i recently asked someone from HTC if they might use windows mobile? " we have no plans to do so, currently". was the reply. more or less what Argos said to that poster.

cant help, more, with the substrate. I've only use what i mentioned. it worked, so i looked no further.

thanks. I will pickup some from Argos then :) Will 1 bag or 2 be enough for a Juwel Rio 125?

I would have thought so. I guess it depends on the depth, you want.

I used, just short of, 2 for my 4x1. but i had it quite deep.
