Changing Tanks

What is the best way of keeping my bacteria alive in my filter when changing tanks?

The process will take around 1-2 weeks, is it impossible, could i store fish and the media seperately in something? The filter is stuck in my rio 180, but I wanna sell it but keep the media.. I have to build a tank stand in the meantime once the rio is sold...

From what I've read on the forum setup a bucket full of tank water and place the filter in and leave it running just keep adding ammonia and the bacteria will carry on doing what it does best
