i was wondering if i would have to cycle my 55 gallon tank. i was thinking i could just pour the fish safe water from my 30 gal and put all my decor from the 30 into the 55 and then just add some water. i would use my hang on filter from the 30 and a new undergravel filtration system i got for the 55. i was wondering if it would need to cycle or if it would be safe for my jack dempsey and peppered corys?

I'm hoping you will be okay because I am doing the same thing next weekend. I'll be testing water daily for ammonia and nitrite just in case but I expect it to work. I'll do daily water changes if I have to. Good luck.

As long as you move the current filter to the new tank along with the fish, you will not have affected your cycle. If you are fully cycled now, you still will be. The next temptation will be to fill up the new tank, you are not cycled well enough to do that. You will need to approach filling the bigger tank slowly to avoid a mini-cycle. There is not much point to moving the water over except to make it a bit less new water in the tank. As long as you don't clobber the fish with all new water at some different temperature, they probably won't care if you use old water or new.
