Changing Stock...

My livebearers will hopefully go tomorrow if chap turns up,now theres 6 guppies & 3 platys,the 2 female platys are huge,now removing all these from the tank,i hope to replace them with 6 + glowlights and maybe 6 sparkling gouramis if they have them in stock still - within an hour of them going...

Now in theory i shouldn't get an mini spikes has the bio load for the livebearers is a lot more than the intended new stock.

But for any reason i can't replace them straight away,how long would it take the filter media to die back?

I think if they are kept in the water they will last at least a week. Maybe you could add fish food over the time between removing your current stock and adding your new stock as it will obviously create ammonia in which your bacteria to feed on? Or you could just use pure ammonia.

i'm sure its 10% a day, but don't quote me on that one. I would just do a straight swap over.

There is other fish in there to keep it ticking over,i just didn't want to leave it too long and ending up with a mini cycle.

Fingers crossed that livebearers go and they have stock i want at maidenhead
