Change Of Direction For My 120L.

Well, heres the scenario.

I have a 120l, which I've set at 75f to try to accomodate the following: 2 x Bolivian Rams, 10 danios (8 zebra, 2 leopard) and 1 x Rubbernose Plec (Chaetostoma Milesi)

I'm thinking about selling in the classified section/returning to LFS the danios and plec (more so the plec). I really want to keep the Rams as they are great fish, but as for the danios and plec I'm not too fussed about ofloading them.

I feel that they are severely limiting my choices of possible tank mate and also I dont want my tank to look like a washing machine due to the strong current. I just want it to be pleasing on the eye with lots of colour and activity on show(a large shoal of Cardinal Tetra's are on my wishlist)

My Rams seem fairly happy and have paired together and spawned once, although I think they would appreciate a warmer temperature.

A possible stocking I'd relish is: my 2 Bolivian Rams, 15 Cardinal Tetra and I'm open to other suggestions (no cories as I have fine gravel). My ph is 7.2 and I plan to have a temp of 79f.

Also, if anyone is interested in taking these off my hands, I am in Warrington, Cheshire.

I think your stocking plan is good, but I do like to have only about 3 species in a tank that size, so the third I would choose would be a school of Corys, a couple of plecos (I guess off your list?) or maybe Otos.

I do like Corys, although I have fine gravel and I'm worried it may affect their barbels. I may consider a couple of BN's though to help reduce any algae that builds up.

I'm thinking of getting 10 cories for my 240l thats currently cyling as I've opted for a sand sustrate in that one.

define "fine" gravel ? ... small little sharp pieces? as i have smooth small pieces of gravel and my corys do fine (i guess they would prefer sand though) on it always active and playful scurrying around looking for food

Here are a couple of pics I just took. I tried grinding it between my thumb and fingers and it didnt seem sharp, but I added these to give a better idea.

As long as the gravel feels not rough to the touch, Corys should be ok. (It does look rounded in the corners.) Barbel problems are caused by sharp gravel or bad water conditions (most commonly), the reason I will always suggest sand is because they will sift through it.
