Chai's Finrot.

Even more growth today!
His dorsal fin is healing up quickly and there's a little more growth between the split :good:

So glad he's finally on the mend :D

Me too! :D
Plus, the split that Tam had in his fin has healed up in 2 days, about a cm to go now whereas it was up to his body! It's incredible how quickly it's healed!

Splits do heal quick in my experience, glad there both on the mend :D

hows Tam with his tankmates now?

Still a little wary, but overall a lot more calm. He's back in the trap at the moment (I just had him there so he didn't tear his fins any more), but I think I'll let him out again tomorrow! That said, he does seem to be happy in the trap. There are lots of bubbles on the surface, but they're all in different places. Could this be him starting to make a nest? :D

could be, maybe he's one of those that prefer small spaces, Tiny is like that, i put him in the divided which is only 2 gal more than he has and he was so unhappy :/

Do you think I should leave him in there for a little longer and see if he makes a bubble nest?
If he does, I might consider getting him a little bigger breeding trap and letting him live in there..

I'm very pleased to report that Tam has definitely made a bubble nest!

Although he doesn't seem to be able to coordinate where he actually blows his little bubbles, he's definitely happy!
I think I will get him that clear plastic, larger breeding trap since he seems so happy in this one! :good:

could be just coloring up. to be honest ive not seen any illness that would discolor fins so evenly, especially in a pattern like that that is easily recognized as butterfly pattern. for that i wouldnt worry too much. Depending on age when you got him can just now be noticable. also his body could be a little faded from either illness or the meds making it more noticable (or different tank with different lights etc.)
cheers

I totally agree. Fin Rot does not necessarily come with coloring. The signs are more like uneven tail edges, spilting tails, and holes in the fins. Look at his fins real close with a magnifying glass and if his edges are smooth and evenly distriuted around the fin shape then he probably does not have fin rot.

And be careful with the meds. Too much will do harm. Also be careful with large waterchanges. The larger the water change, the harder it is to match temperature and pH. Just do freaquent (daily) 25% changes. Water changes are stressful to the fish even though it helps them. They hate the invasion of their territory caused by many water changes.

I definitely know he has fin rot, but he's finally on the mend. His colouring is also evening out a bit more, but I think this is due to the coloured food more than anything else :)

Will do! The myxazin is finally working now that Chai is on a staple diet.
I also don't think he was really affected by the w/cs I did, he just seemed to wonder why all the water was draining!
pH should match anyway, but temp wise it's only ever 1-2 degrees off :good:

It's so strange, his fins have started to fray at the end and I can't work out why.
I'm still medicating, he's still on a good diet and acting normally, and I can't see anything that would tear his fins.

Any ideas what's causing it to tear? I'll try and get a pic soon. :good:
