Centerpiece Fish For 125l Tank?

All of the fish i have listed will be fine with Danios and all can be kept in a 30G for life.
Rainbow cichlids are a peaceful cichlid that might even be timid if there is no cover in the tank.
A single Firemouth would also be fine, Zebra Danios are ideal dithers for these.

SAPs would be much more of a challenge but IMO would be fine as they are only suitable for setups that contain other highly active species.

Most Apisto cacatuoide are tank bred so ph and hardness that they live in in the wild is irrelevant,
Also most of the uk has a fairly high ph

Thanks for the response. Certainly some food for thought there.

I found Apisto cacatuoide at my lfs yesterday, along with Bolivian Rams. However, these were being kept in pH 6.5 - 7.0 (even though they are in the same hard water area as me). Would it be possible to slowly acclimitise them to 7.8? I understand that Bolivians find 7.8 acceptable, but if the Apisto cacatuoide have always been in those conditions, I guess they would not be able to make the transition?

Will also do some serious thinking on the SAPs (no idea why I was typing 'SAFs' in my previous reply). Very keen on the species but did not want a species only tank. Would be interesting to mix them with the danios.

Use drip acclimation method, apparently it's one of the best. Otherwise just do pseudo-drip method (ie. by hand lol) over an hour+.

Both cockatoo apisto and bolivian ram would be able to take 7.8 pH.

pearl gourami with a slightly lower current would make a proper centrepiece..although with ur current restrictions (high current, high PH,not exactly a massive tank) i wouldnt bother with a centrepiece..just get a new schoal of something else..tetras,corys,things like that

Afternoon all

I've been compiling a bit of a shortlist (using several lfs stock lists and online info) for possible additons to my Fluval 125L tank and I'm struggling to lock a good 'centerpiece' fish that fits with my tank/water conditions/tank mates.

I've got a Fluval 125L with 11 zebra danios and a pH of around 7.8 - 8.0.

So far I've thought about and researched the following, am I generally right with what I am saying below?

Bosemani Rainbow - grows too large
Dwarf Gourami - doesn't like active tank mates. Needs calm water and I'm providing a reasonable current for the danios
Agassiz's and Dwarf Flag cichlid - both need much lower pH
Paradise fish - aggressive, can be prone to being nipped.
Australian Empire Gudgeon - reaches 12cm, needs bigger tank
Bolivian Ram - MAY be OK, anyone care to argue?

Any other suggestions that you have?

Whoever provides a suitable choice wins a prize. A completely ficticious and imaginary prize, but a prize none the less!

i think a dwarf gourami would do fine in there

Thanks, I looked this up and it seems quite straight forward. Think I'll alter it differently and use a syringe to add water gradually though (dont have anything to create a steady drip).

you might want to keep a heater in the bucket with the fish in, to keep the water at the same temp as the tank. unless where you are, it's as hot as it is here..in which case heaters are useless.
