Center Piece Fish

hi there, i am currently looking for a new center piece fish for my 40L tank, i've currently only got a small community of 5 small fish. i was looking at pearl gouramis ive had a dwarf gourami before but had a bit of trouble with it fitting in. but is there a fish i could have that will be very peaceful and also look good in my tank?

How about a pair of honey gouramis?

How old is the tank and is it cycled?

Neons should only be put in mature tanks as they are very sensitive to chnging water conditions, this might explain your luck with them lol

i bought a pearl gourami and it gets along with all the other fish and doesnt seem stressed but for the past 3 days it has been ignoring any food i put in the tank, when i put the food in it just sits up the top of the tank watching the other fish eat, any ideas

I would say put in a school of neon tetras they will always swim together and look pretty together also gold platys look great. :good:

imo a pearl gourami is too big for a 40l...

I personally think a 40l will be too small for a pearl gourami in the long run. But what exactly are the other tank inhabitants at the mo?
It could be that the pearl gourami is getting out competed for food. Do you feed several different types of food? Such as flake, slow sinking pellets and fast sinking pellets?
If it's not the other fish that are a problem then perhaps it's not fully settled so is being a big fussy. Have you tried any live foods? Or any frozen foods?
