I am needing to get my carpets cleaned very soon (due to a new puppy.....say no more)...the reason for needing the carpets cleaned has been eliminated (i.e. dog is now toilet trained)

Is there anything toxic in the professional carpet cleaning products? We will be having it done by a professional. I know there are some that avocate "safe for pets".....I wonder if this would mean fish as well or just cats and dogs.... -_-

Has anyone had their carpets cleaned? Did it affect yur fish??

I know last time we had our carpets cleaned, it was hot steam they used with a rotating brush so all the dirt would get out. No chemicals as far as i remember so it shouldn't be harmful to fish.

then again, this was a few years ago and i don't exactly remember what they did but i know these steam cleaners work pretty good and use only water

My carpet was cleaned a few months ago and I had no problems. I removed a power head air intake and covered all tanks with large bath towels. The towels served 3 purposes; filtered fumes  , stopped fish from getting  spooked and prevented scratches on acrylic tanks  . I also kept my doors and windows open during and after the cleaning for a while to air out.

I agree with what has mainly been said, just open the windows to aeranate the room, yes cover your tanks with a blanket.

If you're still concerned you can always add some fresh carbon to your filter to absorb anything that may get disolved in the water.
