They look no different than my Hypostomus Plecostomus (Below)..... so, I guess that is what they are??

As ludwig has mentioned, the pic seems to show a common plec species.

It's very, very common for people to dump unwanted fish in the local rivers/streams/lakes, unfortunately.

I imagine a plec would survive quite happily in Texas (it might be a bit hot, but plecs are very adaptable!); we've certainly had one or two fished, alive, from UK rivers in the last couple of years, although I doubt they would over-winter here.
