Cant Use Pm And Got No Reply From A Moderator

Can anyone on here please enlighten me as to why i keep getting an error message when i try and open PMs that are sent to me ? Im new on here so may be missing something, but it says I do not have access to private messages. Whats the point of that. SORRY to ask in the general forum, but since I sent a message to someone listed as a moderator yesterday, I thought i might at least get some help by "going public" LOL.

You have to exceed 20 posts on the forum before your pm's are activated.... This is to prevent spammers and the likes to abuse the systems.... You'll get there soon. Welcome to our forum!

Like Ludwig says, it is to prevent spammers abusing thr system. 10 posts is not alot.

Problem solved, like minnnt said, 10 posts is not a lot, but at the time of making this post I didn't know thats all it took. It would be more useful to newbies if the error message just said "You cannot use the PM system until you have made ten posts on the forums" then we wouldn't get all upset lol. Thanks for letting me know the score any how. Am loving the site now I can use it

Its still not very helpful to new members, and was very frustrating. I almost gave up using the site, especially since I sent a message to a moderator and got no reply !

Yes, it is a shame that we do have to have that in place due to spammers. I wish we didn't have to have the PM system set up in that manner.

While we don't want to lose new members due to restricted PM access, it's more likely that we will lose members due to 12,000+ pornographic PM messages sent to random members in less than 24 hours. That was the situation that instituted the restricted PM access. We felt that the initial PM restriction, along with other measures, was a happy balance between security and forum useability.

In this case, your question was answered here after 5 minutes by one of our moderators. That's pretty much the average for a question like this being answered. The members & mods here are pretty quick to assist new members, regardless of the question being fish related or not.

Hi Tolak, I fully appreciate the need, and did not think that spammers would be a problem on a site like this but they must be since you have had to instigate the post rule ... I also accept that stating in the error message, the actual number of posts required might contradict the point of the restriction in the first place. However, on the signup email we get, it might be worth putting a sentence in saying "You will be unable to post PM messages for a while, but please enjoy the other facilities of the site and access will be enabled at a suitable time" or some such message. To just get an error message saying "you cannot use this function" is still damned annoying.

You are right, there was a fast response once I decided to put the message on here asking about access, the comment in the title of this post was more directed at the fact i sent a message direct to a moderator and it was not replied to at all.

Anyway, like I said I can post PMs now so all fixed. Hopefully there is some food for thought for the mods/admin to consider a more informative approach for other new members in the future (without giving the game away to spammers).

Oh, and porn ? What are you saying ? There is fish porn splattered all over this site !!! Fish doing naughty things with one and other (some of them with more than one wife too !) on every forum section going.... Hehe.

Just to put my sixpenneth in.... I also was unable to read PM's, so I read the pinned thread Unable to Post or No Validation Email? emailed the address listed, got a reply within 15 minutes by return email, and was up and running within 20 minutes and this was at 19.00 at night, to be fair, that's pretty impressive.

No complaints from me!
