I was wondering if anyone would know why I cant keep a steady ph in my tank.
I have checked ammonia and nitrite levels and they are fine, I also reduced feeding and put some stress zyme in the water. But I have to use PH up all the time to maintain a consistant ph. Whats the crack with that. Does anyone have any ideas? B)

i have the same problem. my kh is 0. i added a small amount of crushed coral to my filter and now it is stable at about 7.4. just don't over do, i understand it can get way to high. the ph from my tap is not stable, our city uses a reverse osmosis to purify our water. when water levels are low they can actually use water out of the gulf of mexico.

Wow, your city uses RO?

pH Up will make your pH more unstable in the long run.

P.T.
yes, and we pay for it. water bill is $75 a month :grr: but i guess that is the price for living on an island.

Is your water bill always 75 or does it fluctuate. I live in a complex, we dont pay for water.
it is $30 before i ever turn on a faucet. it runs about $75 during the rainy season, and they won't set up a non potable irrigation system so during the winter when i have to water the lawn it is about $125. i understand that we have some of the highest water bills in the state. i pay water bills for other homes(i build houses all over the county for a living) and when you get off the island the water bill for a 3000 sq ft house usually runs about $30 per month.

That would be a major concern with me if I owned tanks, I like to do 2 water changes a week.

Thats crazy prices for water, after you telling me that, I just can think how I waste water every day, I beleive I will be more concious of that for now on ;)

i thought about that before getting the 210, but i figured it out and the 40 gal a week for a 20% water change is only about $0.10. it is the laundry adn showers and kids that flush toilets 97 times a day that really add up.

I hear you!

My tap water is always a steady ph of around 6-6.5 good old scottish water.

My tank doesn't have any bog wood, coral, or fresh plants, so I bought some real plants today, in the hope that they will maybe sort it.

I was in the thinking that The nitrates may be too high.??

also my ph tends to go down quite quickly within a day or two it'll be down to 5.5 or there abouts so it takes like a week to get it back to 6.5-7.

any suggestions :kana:
