Got me a new tank/filter along with new questions.

Its 46 bowfront with a fluval 306 filter.

Ive never had a canister filter before, anything i need to know? And should i put the inlet and outlet on opposite sides of the tank, or on the same side?

Opposite sides.

Make sure the media is put in the proper order the flow should go though course mechanical media first, then the bio-media and lastly though fine mechanical media like a floss pad.

Put the return near the surface and give it a slight tilt up so it ripples the surface to facilitate gas exchange. This should not be done in heavily planted tanks. In these roiling the surface is not needed and keeping the co2 in is. The plants will make the O.
