May sound like a silly question but I know tanks need the most support around the edges of the tank... presumably fish tank stands are made to be particularly strong around the edge. But I don't know... so would a 4ft fish tank stand be suitable for a 3ft tank. I'm thinking it probably would, but would like someone with a bit more stand knowledge to tell me one way or the other.

Yes it would be fine. However I would not put a 4 foot tank onto a 3 foot stand, some say its ok but I personally wouldn't!

Lol, well I certainly wont be putting a 4ft tank on a 3ft stand. But I do have a shiney new 36" (l) x 18" (d) x 15" (h) tank as of the 1st Nov, but I've been searching for something to put it on. Someone just happens to be selling a 4ft Juwel Stand just down the road. It seemed perfect if it was ok to put the 3fter on it. Although I do have to check it'll hold something 18" front to back.

Oh, how maddening! I've got a 4 foot tank that I want to set up and only have a 3 foot stand! We could have done a swap if I wasn't at the other end of the country :grr:
Hope it turns out to be the right size for you though :)

Who the devil says that would be ok! Anyone in their right mind suggesting this would be ok needs their head looking at lol.

They might be suggested a 3ft stand with a thick 4ft piece of wood on top at a guess...

Yeah; that's what I thought of...for about 30 seconds before I decided it would be a very bad idea indeed!
