Can I Do A 100% Water Change?

I want to change the decor, plus its now been running for over 3 years with no problems. I know the beneficial bacteria is in the pump, so it should be the same as me starting again?

I normally do a 20% water change fortnightly, and a 75% change maybe every 3 months. I also clean the filter/pipes with the 75% change.

Any advice on the 100% change?

You can do 100% change,but you will need to ensure waters at same temp, i would try to save as much water as possible, but thats just me, people do set up tanks after moves with 100% new water,i myselfhave done a fair few times,

im not sure but when i moved house i emptied a 350l tank completely (keped the filters wet) filled up with new water and had no ill efects at all

OK thanks for the replies guys, I plan on taking the fish out (at last possible second) into a plastic bin or whatever, do what i need to with the tank and put them back in, ensuring same temp etc etc

I thought that would be the case, as I did start off with an empty tank.

Its a 350L tank, so if I aerate the water they are kept in, and keep temp fine, they will be ok to do as much as I need to for a few hours?

Personally, I would drip acclimitise the fish to the new water for at least 30 minutes, depending on species after such a big change... Just to be safe.

More important than matching the temperatures, is matching the hardness levels. If the hardness level in the tank is the same as the water you are going to add back in, you should be fine.

i wouldnt be overly concerned with that . just make sure it is up to temp before re-introducing the fish. i did this saturday with my rams and discus . as soon as the tamk is warm enough just drop and plop
