Can I Add Fish Yet?

Tetra Safe Start is the new version of Bio-Spira, which I am sure many experienced members will agree it worked.

MarineLand/Tetra has changed the formula. The original (Bio-Spira) was great, but needed to be refridgerated. Meaning icepacks and overnight shipping. This new formula works equally well and obviously is much less expensive to ship...

SAFESTART:
SafeStart accelerates the establishment of the bio-filter in newly set-up freshwater aquariums. The live bacteria start working immediately to provide a safe and healthy environment for your fish without the long wait. SafeStart can also be used after a water change, when adding new fish or after medicating.

Features and Benefits
- Live nitrifying bacteria start working immediately to reduce dangerous ammonia and nitrite.
- SafeStart prevents new tank syndrome for healthy fish.
- The patented mix of Nitrosomonas, Nitrosospira and Nitrospira is proven to work.
- Shelf stable formula requires no refrigeration for added convenience.

With respect i refuse to belive that the tank cycled in 1 week due to Tetra safe, never even heard of a 7 days cycle from mature media let alone the junk on the UK shelfs

Hold on a second my post was very respectfull please reply in kind in future, In not going to continue this here as i dont want to derail the OP post further.

I didn't mean to insult you in any way. I apologize. Reason for me answering like that is below:

However, although you used the word "respect" in your previous post, the meaning of your phraze sounds disrespectful, as it indirectly implies that I am a liar. My tanks did cycle in a week time.

Please make a thread about it and ill be happy to debate the bottled effect as will the expeinced members

Did you have a secret meeting with the experienced members, since you talk on behalf of them? What is it to debate about it anyway? It worked for me twice and that's a fact, not an opinion.

Np no i meant with respect to mean just that, it a forum people will disgree and share the views some people cant do without being disrespectfull thats why i used it :), it hard to get your tone when typing but no i was not being funny with you :)

The other point i meant is i think you find expeinced users like myself HAVE used them and followed the instructions and are yet to see a 7 days fully from scratch using a bottle if nay help at all, if your the 1st around here great defo calls for it own thread would love to hear about it. but again never heard of one completed in a week thats all :good:
We have some very knowlegble people on here that can chip is what i meant by starting a topic :good:

Edit: yes im aware of dr tims work it a godd read

I didn't exactly follow these instructions, as all it says on them is to shake it well and add 5ml for every 6l of water. If you have read the information on the website, you will understand that there is more to it. And I also added more of that staff than the recommended dose. It also seems that first it depends on where you get your bottle from as the bacteria may be already dead if exposed to extreme temperatures( I must have been lucky that way as where I live it rarely gets below 0 and above 25 C). If apparently your Ph is acidic(below 7) or you get spikes of ammonia and nitrite above 5ppm or so, then the bacteria can't handle it and will die. I don't want to double post, but there is another thread currently opened whether bottled bacteria works and I posted a few points I followed when I cycled my tanks.

You and I have debated this method on another thread. You gave a detailed discription of your method. Make another thread about how you did it and I will be glad to debate the issue with you. Your assumption that older members are just dimissing it is just that, an assumption. I have 5 10 gallon tanks and a 5 gallon cycling. I used your method on 3 tanks, my method on 2 tanks and a fishless on another. Want my results? Start a thread to debate the issue. I'm not hyjacking another thread.

To the op, cycling a tank can be very frustrating. I use mature media or a mature filter to start my tanks. I'm not patient enough for fishless cycling.

It's no problem at all. I am waiting for my new tank to arrive and as soon as I have substrate, filter, etc..set up, I am going to open a thread and post the results here. I am a bit thight for money around christmas, but presuming the latest early January.

I have just one question if I may ask.. I did the successfull cycles with fish in and after the debate with you previously I have decided to do with with ammonia instead. When you did your attempts, did you use fish or ammonia?

Want my results?

Yes, I would love to. It will be beneficial to compare the results to find out why it works for some and why it doesn't for others.

I set 3 tanks up your way with fish, 2 my way, and one fishless. I will organize the results and when you get a post going, I'd be glad to post my results. Keep in mind, you may not like my results.

Well I can open the thread now, but don't have my tank yet. But we can start it off anyway

It's opened, just scroll above this thread :good:

I have used fish food to cycle two tanks or mine. One was freshwater and one was salt. Also, one was with flake and one with bloodworms. In both cases, the fish food gave me high results for ammonia after a day or two (greater than 5ppm) but it takes a lot of food for it to really work. Also, it does cloud your water like crazy but a large, almost 100%, water change before adding fish will fix that right up. Also, if trying to use fish food, raise your water temp. In my current cycling tank its up to 86F, and in 30 hours I already have 4 ppm ammonia
