Can Fish Catch Disease From Live Plants Bought Online?

just wondering.. Really hate taking a chance with anything from ebay, etc. in with all my fishies!

I don't really know but if the plants are not housed in anything but water and other plants I don't see why they would. I personally don't buy plants off ebay. I do use aquariumplants.com in the US if you reside in the US. Every plant I have purchased has been in great condition and larger than expected. If you're looking at online ordering anyway, you might want to find a reputable online dealer like the one mentioned above or somewhere in the UK if you reside there.

Some people I do believe will give their plants a potassium permanganate rinse before putting them into their tanks. I just give it a tap water rinse.

If you're new to aquarium planting I would also suggest picking up a good book. Between the book I have "Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants" by Peter Hiscock and the information available on the this forum and the advice given by members in the planted section of the forum it has proven a wealth of information that I'm glad to be a sponge to.

I think there are a few parasites/bacteria that can be transferred via plants. But generally those are nasty illnesses fish could get, and they aren't very common. I think it's always safe to get plants who haven't been in others tanks just to be on the safe side.
