Camera For Fish

Hey, I love the glass fish, as requested here is the shrimp hopefully without the blockiness and a fuller picture

Fish killer, I wasn't claiming it to be high spec camera it was only £150, its just that the specs are pretty cool for photographing in tanks- 8mp, small and water proof!
I have never heard of a waterproof Digi SLR and even if you could get the casing it would be a bugger for manouvering in a tank.
Its good for amaturs like me who can just master pointing and shooting.

wow who needs an SLR? and i spent half my working life in the photo trade. remember it through glass and water. wow d:D

Sorry FKNM, I might have over shot the mark there. I thought you were shooting me down for getting my metaphorical dick out, if you know what I mean!

Just to give you heads up if you were thinking of getting it- The macro seems to be its strong point, other photo's are good but don't stand out from say the Nikon or the Sony in its price range, but I can't complain... and it takes a mean picture from the inside of a pint of lager!

mmm so you are putting the cam in the tank

how do you line up the picture without getting in the tank and looking at the veiw finder

you can get great pictures without getting wet you just need to use a polarizer on the lens then you dont get any glare

true but it is hard to fix a polariser to a compact, it needs to cover the light sensor too. and most cameras have a screen on the back, so you should be able to line up at least.

so correct me if im wrong but the cam we are talking about you need to put in the tank and chase the fish around trying to get them in the veiw finder

but with a normal cam you can sit in your chair and wait for the perfect shot

i know which kind of cam i will be using

???? you cant take a picture of a fish from the back of your tank, if you sit on a chair looking in. how about shots of a fish swimming over the camera, think that may be a bit hard from a chair in the livingroom :hyper: you will not get flash back from a camera in the tank, so no need for a polariser :hyper: and best of all, not many people do it :hyper: sounds like a win win win to me :good:

that sounds really good, we're contemplating a new camera and that's in our price range :good:

yes i can take pictures of fish at the back of my tank no problems

how many fish will swim over the cam when your arm is in the tank on the shutter button

the pics i posted were not using the flash

if you buy a desent cam not a gimmic cam that goes under water then you will get better pictures

if you want to spend £160 on a cam thats best feture is it goes underwater and takes ok pics when underwater then buy this cam if you want a cam that has more than one use then look around their are better cams on the market

i dont know what this cam looks like but to work underwater i would say its covered in rubber and that must look great when you are out taking pics at a wedding unless the people are getting married in a swimming pool

clearly the best feature of this cam is its pic quality, not its waterproofing. :good: that is just a handy feature it has. lol as for weddings, well i ain't seen too many in a fish tank, so i guess, thats no problem. :shout: and we were talking about photographing fish :hyper: . and if you are really going for quality, you still need silver halide, as digital still aint close to the quality of film. and who the hell cares what a camera looks like, it not jewelry its a tool. though it must be said that most people i use to deal with, in camera sales, used them as just that! a macro lens that can produce the quality of pics the little pentex can, will cost vastly more than the compact! so i wonder, just who is barking up the wrong tree? nuff said.

anyway lozronz, keep it up, i have rarely seen a picture of the quality, i see in that shrimp pic. on any forum, taken by any sort of camera. and not for the first time a bag full of expensive geart is humbled by a simple and much cheaper box, coupled with a good eye! :good: . keep posting your pics, our eyes will confirm the rest. :good:

as long as the cam you buy can perform at high ISO then their will be no need to use a flash their for their will be no glare with or without a added filters

this underwater cam must be great if you want to take pics of the sharks at seaworld or the london aqurium if it only takes this kind of shot when in the water you chould ask the keepers if you can hang your cam in the tanks on a bit of string and get wet everytime you want to take fish pics

or you can buy a good cam that takes great pics at high ISO so you wont need the flash and get glare

for the £160 this gimmic costs you can buy a much better multi purpose cam

what will be in your cam bag rubber cam, flippers.snorckle and a towel

This is boaring  just look at the pictures :hyper: . END!

Whether it goes in the tank or not, the pics speak for themselves - this is obviously a sh*t hot camera. Pardon language.

Seriously Tikarman, is there any need? Good pics, good price, what does it matter what it looks like? I'm sure it doesn't only work this well underwater - so if anything, it does more than the cams you're on about ;)

To the OP, great pics, lovely fish/shrimp(s) - please post more, they're fab! :good:

Great pictures! Might have to invest in one of these myself if the quality is that good. :good:

T1KARMANN, your pictures are really good, I'm not advocating one way of taking photos, this wasn't a thread I started to argue about methods of photography. I just thought people might like to know about the camera (because we are all interested in things that go under water!) and see what it can do.

If you think the picures are crappy thats fine I have been an amatur photographer for about 23 days so I'm still a little wet behind the ears... ha!

The camera isnt rubberised it looks a bit bland but nothing to be ashamed about at a wedding, even if you are the sort of person who worries about that kind of thing.

To give you an idea of the quality of the macro these are my jeans

And here is a photo of my Striped Panchax you might struggle with through glass.

the last picture you are still getting refection from the light above

and all of the pictures taken are of slow moving fish or shrimps that are no refective

the pics are OK but what im saying is for £160 their are alot of cams out their that can do as well if not better

aros are one of the hardest fish to take pics of due to the shine on their scale which wouldnt is the cam was in the water or outside the tank

all my pics are not taken with a top of the range DSLR with £2k worth of lens

you just need to know what to look for when buying a cam which is somthing that preforms well at high ISO and a fast sutter speed
