Calling any Aussies....

The prices really arent that different from England then once you have taken the exchange rate into consideration. Here a Eheim classic 2215 will set you back a couple of quid under £70, with discount some places sell them at £60. I dont know what the exchange rate is at the moment but i know the AUS $ does quite poorly against the £

hi
personally id take the stuff as ive found when your shipping stuff over( ive spent more than 1/2 of my life in oz & done the move back & forth 3 times now :fun: ) its always the 1st couple of cartons/boxes that cost the most & then you dont actually end up paying much more for a lot more boxes ( does that make sense???? basically the first couple of cartons cost the most then the price seems to go down, it cost me the same to ship 4 cartons one time as 10 the next) i also found that most things in oz are comparable prices to here when you take into consideration what you earn here v's there................... gawd i dont think any of my reply is making sense at all- sorry :*) i know what i mean but i just cant seem to put it into words at the mo.
oh & oz is definitely same voltage as here - ive still got aussie plugs with adapters on my microwave & vacuum from my last move & you can buy adapters here & there no problem.
unfortunately i wasnt into fishkeeping when i was last in perth so i can comment on the availability of stuff etc im sure the rest of the aussies can give you all info needed on that. :)

The only thing I'd be worried about with electrical equipment is the voltage. We use 240V and you guys use 110V.

Nope! we use 240v too!

I'm going to sound real sad here, but...

A few years ago (January 2003) Britain's rated supply was changed from 240V to 230V (-6% / +10%) to make it in line with Europe. The practical effects are next to nil (as 240 is still in the tolerance range) but officially Britain runs on 230V.

More information for other people who need a life is here

Thanks guys, there's some really helpful info there  I think I'll pick out the best stuff and take it, but sell the other stuff over here before I go.

I'm hopefully staying near my Ma while I get settled, she lives just outside Taree in NSW. English electrical stuff does work over there, I took her over a laptop last Christmas and it seemed to work fine, and I know she took a load of stuff from the UK when she moved over.

I understand what you mean about the boxes Milly! We moved to and from Spain a few times when I was little, thank goodness I was too young to do the packing then!

I hate moving, but Oz is gonna be soooooo good! But you guys gotta help me stop spending my moving money on fish!!!!

Sarah :p

You wont have to worry to much about buying fish in OZ, nearly everything is banned over there
