I'm moving to Oz in 6 months to a year. I wondered if it was worth taking some of my aquarium equipment out there. If I get a job straight away I'll use it for me, otherwise I'll need to sell it. Is there a market for things like UV sterilisers, Eheim Pro external filters, Ebo jager heaters, RO units, skimmers etc second hand? Don't want to pay to ship them out if I need the money and can't get anything for them.

Also, I was wondering if it was worth taking one of my tanks. I've just bought a Juwel vision 180 (bowfronted all in one thing with cabinet). What kind of price would something similar be in NSW, either new or second hand?

Thanks guys, I know I'm a pain!!

Sarah

Hey

The only thing I'd be worried about with electrical equipment is the voltage. We use 240V and you guys use 110V. There are transformers you can get but most people couldn't be bothered with it. Or ourse if you did bring them just state, when selling, that they are from the UK.

As for selling, www.ebay.com.au is great for buying and selling fishy stuff.

As for your Juwel tank, I have never seen them around here so I have no idea what it may sell for.

Where in NSW are you going to be living?

Hope that helps a little. If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me

Nope! we use 240v too!

Yep but the plugs are a different shape in Oz than in the uk, so you won't be able to plug any of your heaters, filters or lighting in without getting some adaptors for them all.

Nah, just take the plugs off and put on new ones. It's a five minute job.

No adapters needed as the voltage is the same.

IM sure there is a market for that stuff here! It costs an arm and a leg for us normally. Depends where your headed though, somewhere like QLD has alot more fish stores and cheaper gear than here in SA!

i seem to think things are alot cheaper over there so it might be more beneficial to sell everything over here for top wack then save that money specifically for fish stuff.

if you do run into money troubles you can dip into your fishy fund rather than trying to sell things quickly which you will probable end up getting less for.

maybe if someone from aus could post up some rough prices for the equipment mentioned. or have a look on the aus ebay to see how much you could get for your kit.

with the cost of shipping in there aswell it might be cheaper any ways to sell here and buy there!

although when part of my family recently moved over i know they had a big container being shipped over with all there stuff in, so if your doing that and have space anyway......

just my thoughts!

Your thinking of the US Paul, in OZ from what ive heard from members aquarium stuff is frightfully expensive, especially imported stuff like Eheim filters.

LOL, i was gettin scared then for a second Paul! :p

Our eheims, Ro's, UV's etc are all very expensive. Id say if u really wanted to lug them over here, go for it. Even second hand im sure someone will buy them from you! :)

yeh....unfortuantly fish keeping doesnt come cheap

An Eheim Classic 2215 filter here costs $198AUD (and thats with my 10% frequent buyers discount)

UV sterilisers cost anywhere between $80 and $350AUD

Heaters vary in price depending on brand and sizxe but I have paid upto $40AUD for a 250watt heater in the stores (cheaper online though)

Check out this site for prices of things brand new (and thats one of our cheapest online retailers too).....www.aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au
