Buying A Quarantine Tank

Im at the stage where I realise that I should have a Q. Tank...

Im going to get something small, not sure what yet. But my question is how do i get it going...

Ive got a mature tank to help me get started, do I add some of my tank water, squeeze the filter media in, or what?

An easy guide for someone who is not that intelligent would be appreciated.

You can either use some of your mature media from your existing tank to get it started, then proceed as a usual fishless cycle. Or if you have no sick fish or planning on getting new fish soon, put the media from the Q tank into a space in your exisitng filter, that way when its needed it will be ready to go and you just set up the Q tank as needed
