Building A Small Betta Barracks

That looks good. You should get it moved to the DIY section. Looks like a good idea. At the end you should put how much it cost you all up. Cant wait to see the finished product

Bozza,
The reason why I decided to put it here is because this is purely Betta related.

Well the silicone has be shaped, trimed, and set. The tape has been removed and the glass all cleared up with a handy razor blade. I decided to test the tank out with water in it and it has been holding for 2 days strong now.

Next step is to drain it and insert the seperators, along with cutting the PVC to the correct lenght and dilled accordingly. Hopefully the tank will be completed by this Saturday.

I've got my own plans in the works now. I'm going to do a modified version of the standard barracks and post the diagrams soon once I get nearer a finalized version. Should be interesting.

Perhaps I missed it, but how are you going to get the water flow from the furthest divide back to the filter? I have a few ideas of how to achieve it but best not to reinvent the wheel if there's already a handy solution or if it will just do it on it's own. I'm thinking of solid glass or acrylic dividers with a cut out gap below and above the divider itself.

Sorry to answer for Danno but said in the first post he is going to use plastic meshing as dived so the water will flow through :)

Cant wait to see pics of this up in action :)

I saw he was using mesh but it still presents something of a problem getting a current strong enough to pull water back to the filter without being too strong for the Bettas I would think.

Nah it will be fine. I would imagine its not going to be a really fine mesh so water will have no problem moving through it (so no need to a lot of suction from the filter to pull the water through) and with a spray bar set up currectly you would get very little current on the return side.

have you tryed that Rapids mini canister filter yet? im currious to how it will work. i have orderd one and am recieving it on monday for my betta barracks so wanted to no if it was any good.

Teelie, I am going to use a fine mesh to separate the chambers. If the flow isn't passing the mesh I will most likely put little overflow cuts in the mesh. I'm then taking the 'maintenance chamber' and inserting the intake for the rapids canister filter and then scraping the default spray bar and inserting my own elongated tube with holes it in to help disperse the flow a bit. I will also be putting the heater in the maintenance chamber.

afishdude, I wasn't about to try the filter out full scale yet but it does work.

Plans have been delayed because college creeped up on my way to fast and I had to start packing and cleaning. I come home on weekends so I will still be able to work on it. It will just require a bit more patience. :)

Changed my mind on solid dividers. I had the rather ingenius idea of egg-crate. Solid, safe and very porous but then thought of how to cover up the fact it was egg-crate which would be kind of unattractive. I'm going to grow Java Moss on the dividers and make Java walls.
