I am fishlessly cycling my 29 gal, and will be getting fish soon. I don't want to introduce anything from the lfs into my new tank. How should I do this? I don't want to just dump the water from the store into my tank with the fish, but I don't really want to poor it into a bucket with my water and try to net the fish, either. Could I bring a container of my water to the store and have them put the fish into that? I know that their net would contaminate the water, but that sounds safer than putting their water in the tank. The store is only 3 min. away, so I don't think it would cool too much, but I could put that container in a larger container of warm water. I will first be buying pearl danios, and later, cory cats.

Thank you!

Float bags the fish come in in the tank but roll down the sides and attach to the side of your tank with pegs. Leave to acclimatise for an hour adding a little tank water every 10 minutes. Then net them out of the bag and into your tank. This is as safe as you can get really. Obvioursly try not to spill an water out of the bag into your tank and remove it carefully after you have netted your fish out. The only other thing you can do is to buy from as reputable a dealer as possible. There are lots of threads and advice on finding a good LFS.

do all the above, but to be honest, if you cannot trust the water from your LFS then you should not buy fish from there. I have been buying fish over several years from mostly the same shop, floating the bag for 30 minutes then, after introducing water from my tank in small stages I allow the fish to swim out in their own time (I feel a second netting in such a short time will only add more stress) then take the bag and any remaining water out. Result....no problems thus far.......... :good:
