sooo...

Ive had livebearers for a while, but really fancying these.

Would love to go about breeding, can anyone point me into the right direction before i buy?

I know they fight, but how easy is it to breed? I have the equipment (I think) but i don't want to jump right in a buy the fish!

not to be taken lightly.. MUCH MUCH MUCH more demanding than livebearers!

look in the FAQ pinned thread at the top of the betta forum page

Hiya

No you misunderstand me. I don't want to take it lightly, hence the not jumping in with both feet!

I want to find out as much as i can first, but they are soooo beautiful fish!

Thanks for the info. Will go and look now

ok youll need:-
4 tanks!!!
thats one 20-30Gallon
and 2 2gallon+
and a 10 gallon!

the two 2 gallon+tanks will be for you male
and female in the other!

10 gallon as a spawning tank (sponge filter indian almond leaves!)the 20-30 gallon tank is essential for the fry to grow out in!

DONT breed pet shop bettas!
alot of these are Veil tails and can produce more babies and also undesirable and nobody will buy them :(
although theyre loverly!
Ok i havent noticed where you are from, but if your in the US,
try Aquabid! awsome bettas show quality perfect to breed!
if your in UK try
KG bettas, KPaqautics
Or Ebay!

Breeding bettas is very dificult!
i will message you a link to a site that will provide you with a mentor to help you through breeding!
introduce you and ill take you under my wing...

Yes got the tanks. I know never to put 2 males in together!

not got filter, or almond leaf. Will go to Ebay now for the almond leaf.

Do i need a filter? Or will water chages suffice, with the tanks being small?

indian almond leaves
not needed... they do help from what ive heard but they are not essential by a long shot

it is recomended you do not breed pet shop betta, namely coz most are the undesirable veiltails, but also coz most are too old to breed and produce helathy problem free young.
if your prepared to look and be patient and learn your tailtypes... you will find reasonable quality non-veiltail specamins in pets stores. you see alot of nice plakat(wild type finage) males in tanks of females, but they can be hard to spot sometimes.
you could get also breed from a veiltail and a non-VT if the VT has desirable colouration. then work on buildng up your own strain

filters are recomended but not essential in small tanks housing a single adult,, but you will need a decent sponge filter for the spawning and growout tanks.

only a small sponge flter shouldnt be costly!
:)
join that site like i said then ill talk you through it!
glad you got the tanks many people come and say i want to spawn and dont have the right stuff!

Just out curiosity, can i actually buy a 1ft tank and put a piece of glass from corner to corner to seperate my male and female?

:)

I should imagine so.... lots of plants and stuff so they dont see eachother too much!
