hey everybody i have a 35liter tank with goldfish in it when they have passed on im going to completely re vamp the tank and put 3 guppies in the best looking ones i can find and breed them but i plan to leave them in the tank the whole progress leaveing the fry in the tank i will put lots of plants in the tank and make sure they are fed 3 times a day so they don't nipple thier kids  any other tips?

EDIT:how many guppies should i get for breeding 1male 1 female? 2male 1female? 1male 2female? im going to be keeping the fry in the same tank as thier parents for ever so i need to know and i will heavyily plant it so the fry are not eaten

They will be fine like that this is how i keep my guppies.

No need to strip the tank down total, just use a gravel vac and clean the gravel several time so it's very clean.
clean any media in what ever filter you have and then it should be fine for them.

thanks but the filter is very veyr dirty and i heard guppies fry like a bare bottom?

that dose not matter, a bare bottom just makes it easy to syphon out wast material.

The wait could take a very long time. Goldfish kept under proper conditions will live for over 15 years.

Breeding guppies just to produce some is easy. Add one female guppy to the tank, remove fry as they are born. Breeding with a purpose is harder, it means careful selection of the female and the male, ensuring the female is not carrying sperm packets from a previous encounter and raising the fry to an age where you can select the best of them to continue the breeding project. Purging the female of previous sperm can be done as said above, put her in a tank alone until she stops producing fry completely. That can easily take 6 months.
The first question to answer is what do you intend to do with the fry. Once you have that answer, the steps can be better defined. Unless you have at least a 50 gallon tank, you don't dare start with much more than a pair or trio of appropriate breeding partners or you will run out of space way too soon.

Yep listen to OldMan47 he knows what hes doing! Also I would say that you should have 2 female and one male. Make sure you DO NOT do 2 male and one female!!!! The female will be harassed NON STOP!!!

ok thanks but 50gallon? im talking about gettin two small guppies not full grown i doubt they would produce 50 guppies

This is what can happen to a molly tank with only a female in it in less than 6 weeks. The picture was taken 5 weeks after the single female went into that tank. I am in the process of purging unknown sperm from her so I can breed her with a nice sailfin lyretail creamsicle (her color) male.

Guppies produce fry faster than mollies but they eat a few more than mollies.

thats good because the guppies may eat a few which im dreading  but nature must takes it course my pet shop will be happy to BUY :hyper: a few healthy ones and i predict i'd only have 30% of the fry to keep my self and im looking at a 60liter tank now

EDIT:any1 know a big around 40-100liter tank thats cheap

I suggest three females to a male...NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
In terms of a guide of breeding guppies? It couldn't be more easy. I have made a formula to show how it works

females+male+tank+water(you really need this)= babies...and a hell of a lot of them..

Haha thats a great equation! ALso I'd say if you're letting nature take its course then make sure you have plants if you're planning on a few surviving each batch.

Best thing i found for fry was lots and lots of plants and rocks for them to hide in. I have sucessfully reared fry in tanks with other fish jsut by providing enough hiding spaces. Java moss in brilliant for hiding fry if you can get hold of some.

Breeding is easy, get 1 male and 2-3 females and you will soon have plenty of fry.

Your going to be waiting a good while for those goldfish to die. If you dont want them might i suggest you rehome them to a pond or someone with a larger tank, since i can proberbly guarantee the tank they are in at the moment is not big enough.

Good luck.
Laura

I have just read your other thread and am glad to hear your rehoming those goldfish :D
