Brackish Water

a friend of mine recently sugested i make my ciclid tank brackish. he said this would make them get a little bigger and more colorful. has anybody ever heard of this?

no and you need to be more specific as bracksih water would kill a lot of cichlids.

whats cichlids do you have?

I put my mozambique mouthbreedersin bracksih and they thrived in it and bred suprise suprse!!

oh sorry your right, I have 2 jack dempsys 2 jewels, and 4 other that i'm not sure of the name. 2 of them are yellow and have horizontal black and white lines on them and the other 2 are blue and have vertical black markings (not sure if that helps much) and there is also a pleco in the tank.

The pleco will have serious troubles with brackish. The colorful ones you describe sound like rift lake fish so they might be OK with brackish.
Unless you know the water requirements of each of your fish, don't start changing the water chemistry of your tank.
