Brackish Water For Figure 8 Puffer

Hi all,
I could really use some help with my figure 8 puffer - I've read lots of conflicting information about the water conditions they need (brackish or freshwater).

He is a young puffer so from what I've read he won't suffer from being in freshwater at the moment, but I realise he will gradually need brackish water. If someone could explain how to slowly increase the salinity of the water, or how I should go about changing the water conditions, I'd be so grateful! It becomes very confusing reading that they need aquarium salt, then that they need marine salt etc. (Someone even suggested taking water from the sea and just shoving it in?!)
